Today was the first site meeting. Below is the summary of the progress from the builder.
Works are currently on programme and progress is excellent.
Progress
Works on-going and completed since start date of 04.01.22 (3 weeks) are as follows:
Full site set up is complete including site office, heras fencing, mess room, office set up, plant (digger,
dumper), H&S including all signage etc
All fixtures and fittings to be saved have been removed and stored in room 8 ( G14). This room has
been sealed and dustproofed
All items to be disposed of have been removed
Items unsure of are by the fence (just outside the compound
Floor coverings including ply have been removed from the shop, café and toilets
Dustproofing has been undertaken as per specification to doorways
A temporary timber screen has been fitted to the entrance to existing link building and floor has been
protected.
Ceilings have been carefully dismantled to allow for propping and dismantling of chimney
Chimney at first floor has been marked out as per the temporary works design for needling and propping
5 Needles openings have been core drilled and steel needles fitted. This was checked by Richard
Jackson (C&W) prior to any demolition works being undertaken
Acrow props have been fitted and braced to take load of chimney at first floor as per temporary works design
Chimney at ground floor level has been completely removed and any movement monitored. Slight
cracking has appeared but nothing unexpected. The door adjacent to the chimney is slightly tighter to open.
Timber beams in G2 have been propped prior to chimney removal
Safes have been moved to allow for needling to be undertaken
Basement has been cleared
Basement (wooden) flooring (scaffold boards) has been removed and disposed of
Basement plasterboard has been removed to plasterboard skip
Service hatch in new café (G1) has been propped, knocked out, lintelled and formed.
Chandelier has been taken down
All partition walls in ladies and gents toilets have been removed and disposed of
All redundant sanitary ware has been disposed of
Where new steel is to be fitted across new toilet block, this wall has been removed and disposed of
Ladies raised flooring has been removed
Floorboards have been taken up in café area for the excavation of pads( high level and basement level )
Floorboards have been taken up in the ‘piano room’ for access and assessment.
Excavation is ongoing for steel pads
Archaeological trial trenches have been completed on the ramp excavation and the link excavation.
Further excavations ongoing and will require monitoring by archaeologist
Archaeologist will be in attendance for the gas pipe excavations this week
Socotec building control have been to site and are happy with excavations to date. Works they need to
be undertaken is to lintel across the electric cabling (spanning footing)in the link and to confirm that the
rainwater pipe uncovered at the ramp heel footing is redundant.
Services (M&E, security)
Electrical temporary supply has been installed and the 110v site transformer is located in the kitchen
Heating system has been decommissioned where required to undertake the works.
Water has been capped off where required
Water and waste has been connected to the site accommodation.
Fire alarm and security company have attended site, moved cabling in the basement, provided dust caps
for fire sensors and have moved the vibration sensors in the existing link
Health & Safety
No issues to report
Archaeology
Ross Cook from Archaeodomus has been in attendance from January 10th
Ross has been happy with works to date
Finds include an early 13th century tile plus various items of pottery
Human burials and remains have been found in the new link footing trench and in the basement level dig
for the new steel posts.
Permission has been granted by Historic England to lift intact human burials within the footings for
chimney support steels. These will be reburied in accordance with all legislation.
